Publisher’s Message: Buzz Then and Now

Then: Buzz ,the day I brought him home from Canada.

Say what you will about Facebook, but this week a memory popped up that reminded me that this social media platform can be a happy place.

April 27 marked nine years since I brought Buzz and his brother, Traveler, home to Chelsea from Canada.

And, looking toward the future, in July, Buzz and Traveler will meet again for the first time since that day. We plan to have them see each other at a dog show in Monroe.

Buzz has matured into a handsome loving pet and Rally dog and he’s even learning some farm dog behaviors. He helps me with what seems like the never-ending chore of ridding the property of fallen tree limbs after storms. He’s pretty good at picking up some sticks and carrying them to the woods to assist me.

And, he’s learning to be a city dog, too, as we take more and more trips into Chelsea to pick up this and that downtown.

And even as I’ve slowly expanded his life experiences, his true calling remains in the Rally Ring.

Now. Buzz at the Toledo Dog Show earlier in April.

We showed once in April in Toledo and he finished the day as “da man” once again — scoring 99, 100, 99 out of a possible 100 points and coming home with the two big awards – high combined and high triple qualifier. This, despite my not being the best handler in the world for him. For some unknown reason, my back decided to behave badly the day before and I was still hurting the whole time we were showing.

Early May will find us tending to spring things around the property – with an occasional trip to the Farmers Market. Until Memorial Day weekend when we are planning several days of shows in Kalamazoo.
