Some of the gorgeous daylillies at Reddeman Farms Banquet and Golf.

During the last few weeks, I’ve had a lot of people ask me why I haven’t written about the closing of the Heritage newspapers and the last print edition of Washtenaw Now.

That’s simple. I wanted to print what the company had to say about the decision because no matter how I approached this story, I thought it might be perceived as if I was happy about this turn of events.

Well, I’m not.

I love newspapers. I’ve always loved newspapers. And writing for newspapers is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do with my life. In fact, 35 years later, after writing for a number of them, I still feel the same way about reporting the news.

And although I’ve chosen to deliver the news online as a one-person operation, this doesn’t diminish a life-time devotion to news in print. I wish I could afford to produce Chelsea Update in print, but the costs are way out of my league. However, if there’s an angel investor out there who would like to back a print version of Chelsea Update, please contact me.

The support of this community for Chelsea Update has been nothing short of amazing. And as much as I hate publishing begging pleas for donations, all I can say is thank you so very much for your support. For believing in me and for enjoying what you read on Chelsea Update. I could not continue to publish your daily news without you and our local businesses, so please shop and eat locally, and support them, too.

If you meant to make a donation and this column is serving as a reminder, please mail your check in any amount to Chelsea Update, 18829 Bush Road, Chelsea, MI 48118.
