Publisher’s Message: With Gratitude on ‘The Game’ Day

Drake and his maize and blue tug toy made by my friend Elizabeth Richardson. Notice a bit of a size change?

The newest full-time furry staff member at Chelsea Update will learn the importance of the Saturday after Thanksgiving in this household.

For those readers who aren’t football fans, or who might have been living under a rock this week and avoiding the news, it’s the date of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry game.

At three years old, Aidan knows what it’s like to be 3-0, and he, too, was a puppy for his first Ohio State-Michigan game. The electricity in the air revolving around this game is unmatched during the rest of the college football season. And let us not forget that Aidan is named after one of Michigan’s greatest players Aidan Hutchinson.

File photo by Nancy Jennings. Puppy Aidan and dearly departed Buzz show our support of the Michigan Wolverines before “The Game.” It was Aidan’s first experience with this rivalry game. He’s 3-0 in his lifetime.

But it’s Drake’s first Michigan-Ohio State game. And there will be a lot of cheering and from time to time, it’s possible that some bad words are yelled as well.

So, get ready, Buddy. No matter what, it’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

This game will join several other life-in-this household-firsts. Drake has already had a few milestones during the last couple of months — from his first dog show to his first snow to his first Thanksgiving.

And I hope he will be a good luck charm for his first Michigan-Ohio State victory today.

There has been a lot of company in this household during the last few days as well. And that’s been quite exciting for a 5 month old puppy. On Friday, Drake met my niece, Sienna, and was reacquainted with my brother, Eric. They flew in from NJ in time to attend a U-M volleyball game Friday afternoon, (as 8th-greader Sienna is a very good volleyball player) and this will be followed by their attendance at The Game today.

Go Blue.

File photo. Looking way back. Ryan and Buzz believe in The Wolverines. Go Blue.
