The Purple Rose Theatre Company is thrilled to revive the uproarious comedy, “The Vast Difference” by Jeff Daniels, for the first production of the 2013-2014 season.

In this 20th anniversary production, George Noonan is having a mid-life crisis, according to information about the play.

The father of five girls and a flight attendant for a small Midwestern airline, he is scheduled to have a vasectomy. As he works up the courage to go through with the procedure, George becomes reflective on his struggles with his career, living up to his father’s expectations, and the nature of “being a man” in the modern world. The Vast Difference contains mild adult language and themes.

The Vast Difference will have a 13-run from Friday, Sept. 20-Saturday, Dec. 14.

There will be seven low-priced previews performed Friday, Sept. 20-Thursday, Sept. 26, with a press opening on Friday, Sept. 27. Regular performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 3 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Directed by Guy Sanville, the cast includes David Bendena (Chelsea), Stephanie Buck (Chelsea), Nathaniel Eyde (East Lansing), Richard McWilliams (Dayton, Ohio), Rusty Mewha (Plymouth), Michael Brian Ogden (Berkley, Mich.), Drew Parker (Ferndale), Rhiannon Ragland (Gregory), and Tom Whalen (Royal Oak).

Underwriting support for the season comes from The Ford Motor Company Fund, The Hamp Family Fund, and the Matilda R. Wilson Fund.
