‘Rec It’ Tuesdays returns this summer

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Jim Randolph for the information in this story.)

Looking for creative new ways to stay active, connected, and entertained this summer?

Concerned about social distancing, group gatherings, and just staying safe and healthy?

We are happy to announce the 2020 edition of Rec It Tuesdays. Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation (CAFR) and the Chelsea Community Center Exploratory Committee (CCCEC) will partner with Chelsea District Library (CDL), Chelsea School District Community Education and Recreation Department (CSD), SRSLY, and the City of Chelsea Parks and Recreation Commission (Parks and Rec) to sponsor this summer’s activities.

All activities are free and open to everyone and, of course, are set for Tuesday evenings.

Last year, these organizations came together to sponsor in-person, Rec It Tuesday activities all summer at local parks and recreation facilities.

This year, not surprisingly, the COVID-19 outbreak necessitates a different plan.

The lineup this summer will include alternating weeks of Rec It Tuesdays (some virtual and all compliant with Covid-19 best practices) and Trail Tuesdays.

For Trail Tuesdays, we encourage everyone to get outside and bike, walk, scoot or run a favorite trail. There are great trails in and around Chelsea.

We will share some of our favorites and hope that you will also post your favorite trails on our Facebook page.

Trail Tuesdays are scheduled for June 23, July 7, July 21, and Aug. 4, though walking is a great idea every day, every season.

Rec It Tuesday activities include:
June 30: Sidewalk chalk art. The library will provide the chalk – you provide the sidewalk.

July 14: Community Kahoot!: an online game organized and hosted by SRSLY.

July 28: Breathe Yoga. Sue Whitmarsh of Chelsea’s Breathe Yoga will lead a community session of yoga.

Aug. 11: Scavenger Hunt: an all ages hunt for places and items throughout town. Sponsored by Chelsea Community Ed & Rec and Chelsea Parks & Rec.

Who can participate? Anyone looking for fun activities with family and friends.

What does it cost? Nothing – all costs are borne by the community partners.

What’s better than free? If you post a comment or a photo or your Rec it Tuesday participation on Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation Facebook page , you will be entered into a weekly drawing to win free loot – like gift cards and merchandise from local businesses.

Want to help? Please contact Andrew Thomson at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or donate prizes.

CAFR President Kristina Martin said, “Join us this summer for a variety of fun filled recreational activities. We look forward to engaging everyone in our community, while ensuring we all stay safe and healthy.”

Please be sure to check Chelsea Community Center and Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation Facebook pages for additional Rec It Tuesday details, updates, and cancellations:
