Recent obituaries: Elizabeth Buschmann, William J. Fagan, James Edward Coffman

BuschmannElizabethElizabeth Buschmann of Chelsea, formerly of Indianapolis, age 96, died peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Chelsea Retirement Community.

She was born June 18, 1917 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Cassius and Myrta (Blinn) Bashore.

Elizabeth attended the John Herron School of Art and graduated in 1939 from Butler University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She married A. Donald Buschmann on June 15, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1980.

Elizabeth was an art teacher at St. Luke’s School and an artist who worked mainly in watercolor and oil paintings. She and Don moved from Indianapolis to Lamb Lake, Trafalgar, Indiana in 1971 and she loved to fish, even into her 90’s.

William J. Fagan of Chelsea, age 91, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea.

He was born on May 16, 1923, in Oakland, California, the son of William J. and Mabel (Wieland) Fagan.

He had lived in the area since 2011, coming from Traverse City.

Bill honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Second Lieutenant.  He was employed with Michigan Bell as a Senior Auditor. Bill enjoyed fishing, reading, birdwatching, and “would have made a wonderful professor.”

Coffman,-James-photoJames Edward Coffman of Stockbridge, age 73, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1940, in Dearborn, MI, the son of Clarence and Rose (Leporowski) Coffman. He was a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit.

On Oct. 5, 1963, he married Janice Berjeski in Detroit and she survives. Jim was a veteran of the Armed Forces, serving in the United States Army from 1966-68 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class in the Military Police. They moved to Chelsea in 1973 and later moved to Stockbridge in 1996. In 2001, after 32 years of service, he retired from the Ford Motor Company as a supervisor in Material Handling.

He was a longstanding member of St. Mary Catholic Church and choir in Chelsea and the Knights of Columbus. He was a frequent lector at the St. Joseph Shrine in Grass Lake, MI. He later became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamston. He enjoyed politics, history, farming and most of all gatherings with family and friends.
