Rich died early Friday morning under the loving care of his daughter, Aireal. He lost his short battle with cancer.
He is survived by his precious daughter Aireal and 2 step-daughters Amber and Andrea. He is also survived by a sister, Malissa. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother.
Rich graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. He was a painter at U of M until his retirement. He loved working with wood and was very proud of making Aireal’s first highchair with his own hands.
Rich will be cremated with no services.

John “Fred” Griffith of Chelsea, formerly of Ann Arbor, age 92, died Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Silver Maples Retirement Neighborhood.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Edwin Amsden and Alene Margarete (Gerstner) Griffith.
He leaves his wife of 71 years, Bonnie (Bergren) Griffith; his daughter Linda, and son-in-law Terry Hurst of Dexter; granddaughters Julie Hurst of San Diego and Laurie Corcoran (William) of Brunswick, GA; two great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Fred grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1946. He served in the US Merchant Marines, Michigan Air National Guard, and US Air Force. Fred retired from the Detroit Edison in 1990, following a 31-year career in appliance repair and customer service.
Fred designed and built his family’s home on Dexter-Ann Arbor Road in 1960. He and Bonnie lived there happily until moving to Silver Maples in 2015. Over the years, Fred spent many happy hours at home, working in the yard, extensive gardens, and his workshop.
A memorial service will be planned for later this year.
