Recent obituaries: Virginia McKernan, Therese Martin, Samantha Jo Dollinger

McKernan,-Virginia-webVirginia R. McKernan of Chelsea, age 94, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at the Chelsea Retirement Community.

She was born on June 21, 1919, in Sylvan Township, Michigan, the daughter of John F. and Alice E. (Miller) Liebeck.  On Oct. 9, 1948, she married Mark E. McKernan in Chelsea and he preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2008, after 60 years of marriage.

Virginia had lived in Chelsea her entire life and was born on her family’s centennial farm which was founded in 1878 by her parents. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1937 and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Martin, ThereseTherese Martha Martin, nee Darga passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 15 just short of her 88th birthday.

Her last days and weeks were spent with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Tess was born in Detroit, Michigan, on Feb. 23, 1926, to Martha and Joseph Darga, the youngest of their four children. She attended St. Mary’s of Redford and in 1946, she married Robert C Martin, who preceded her in death. They bought the home in Royal Oak, where she lived the rest of her days, just before the birth of their first son in 1947.

Dollinger-Samantha-2Samantha Jo Dollinger, of Chelsea, (formerly of Indianapolis), age 23, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. She was born Sept. 4, 1990 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Steven R. & Deanna Sue (Bow) Dollinger.

Samantha attended Triton High School in Fairland, IN, then graduated from Chelsea High School in 2009. She graduated from Ross Medical College in 2010. Samantha was a medical assistant. She loved her family and her dog, Samson.
