Charlotte Ann (Houston) Anderson of Chelsea, age 77, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 at Chelsea Retirement Community due to complications of carcinoid carcinoma.
She was born Nov. 24, 1937 in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Paul and Luella (Meyer) Houston.
Charlotte was a very passionate person who always threw herself into things 110 percent. She had three main passions in life. First was helping hearing-impaired children, including her son Paul. She earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from EMU focusing on hearing impairment. She taught deaf children at Wines School in Ann Arbor. Second, she fell in love with the American West at a young age, and especially loved the Two Grey Hills Trading Post on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Third, she was very active in the Spinner’s Flock of Ann Arbor, and enjoyed encouraging young people to spin and weave natural fibers, and to carry on the craft.
Charlotte was politically active in Sharon Township, where she was instrumental in organizing the group “Stewards of Sharon”, and served as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Review. She was an expert seamstress (her Bachelor’s Degree was in Home Economics Education), she was an avid reader, and she enjoyed jewelry making as a hobby. She was a very good patient advocate for her mother, her daughter, and for herself during their final illnesses.
