Did you know that bridge can be traced back to the early 16th century when a game called Whist was played in England?

Through the centuries, it evolved and grew in popularity and appeared on the American scene in the 1890’s. Today, there are
millions of bridge players in the United States; most play at home and there are also more than 1,000 American tournaments
annually and 4,200 American bridge clubs.

Come enjoy this popular American pastime at Chelsea’s 7th Annual Bridge Tournament on Thursday, June 6. This all-day event starts with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and play begins at 9 a.m.

The $45 per person registration fee also includes lunch, refreshments during the day, and prize money. The tournament will be conveniently held at the Washington Street Education Center located at 512 Washington St.

This annual tournament is organized and hosted by the Chelsea Senior Center as a fundraiser and a fun event for the community.

According to John Bohlender, chairmen of the tournament, “This event has been very well attended in previous years. If you don’t have a playing partner, we will try to make accommodations. It’s a fun way to meet people, play some competitive bridge, and support a local community resource.”

A regular bridge club meets every Thursday at the Center and attracts players from Chelsea, Dexter, Ann Arbor, and the surrounding areas. For more information about the tournament or the Senior Center, call 475-9242 or email [email protected].

Registration forms for the tournament can be obtained by clicking here.

The registration deadline is May 27.
