Purple Rose Theatre is offering a number of acting classes and you can register for them today.

The class season starts with the Purple Rose Actor/Director Lab, Mondays, 7-10 p.m., from Oct. 17 – Dec. 12. There is no class Monday, Oct. 31.

Content includes physical training, monologue work, and extensive scene study. Under the instruction of Purple Rose Artistic Director Guy Sanville, and Resident Artists Michelle Mountain and Lauren Mounsey, students will acquire the tools that professional actors and directors use in their craft. Two to four hours per week of rehearsal time with a group is required outside of class. Beginners welcome. There is a limit of 15 actors and 5 directors (directors by invitation). Students must be 18 years of age to participate.

Actors looking to journey into the heart of Shakespeare can do so with Shakespeare at the Rose, 10 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturdays from Jan. 21 – March 4.

Instructor and Resident Artist Michelle Mountain will help students explore how to approach the text, how to find the truth within the scene or monologue by becoming and remaining present, how to open up to the clues inherent in the text and finally, how to apply the fundamental principals of acting to these classic monologues and scenes.

This class will give you the tools to approach Shakespeare with confidence, adventure, honesty, and joy.  Participants must come prepared with a memorized monologue.  Details regarding the monologue to be announced. Some outside work may be required.  Beginners welcome. Students must be 18 years of age to participate.

Are you serious about getting an acting job? Are you ready to buckle down and get to work? Then you might be interested in the Purple Rose’s Audition Intensive. From March 10-12, 2017, this class features intensive, individualized work on monologues, cold readings, mock-auditions and film and commercial audition techniques. Get ready for audition season.

Each student will leave with two audition-ready contrasting monologues. Beginners welcome. Taught by Artistic Director Guy Sanville and Resident Artist Michelle Mountain. Students must be 18 years of age to participate.

Our Voice and Movement Intensive, offered April 28-30, 2017, is designed to further connect actors to their most important instruments: the voice and body. Actors will learn to open up and free these instruments through relaxation, breaking through habitual tension and body patterns and deepening the understanding of one’s inner life and outer behavior.

The goal is to surrender to the true self so we can work with ease and authenticity. Instructors are Resident Artists Michelle Mountain and Lauren Mounsey. Students must be 18 years of age to participate.

Young actors entering 8th-12th grade in the fall of 2017 will have the opportunity to experience professional approaches to acting during the Teen Intensive, from July 10-20, 2017 (Monday – Thursday; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.). The camp, taught by Resident Artists Michelle Mountain and Lauren Mounsey, features voice and movement work, audition techniques, monologue, scene work, and acting for film. Students must come to class with a completely memorized one-minute monologue from a published play. Beginners welcome.

The Actor’s Bootcamp, a crowd favorite among the PRTC’s class offerings, will conclude the educational season. From July 21-23, 2017, actors will spend three days of intensive study in acting techniques used by working professionals under the instruction of Artistic Director Guy Sanville and Resident Artist Michelle Mountain.

The class features physical warm-ups, acting exercises, monologue work, and a Q and A about the industry. Lunch is provided on Saturday. Students must come prepared with a memorized one-minute contemporary comedic monologue from a published play.

A great class for actors to get a taste of the acting principles that guide Purple Rose artists in their work.  Beginners welcome. Students must be 18 years of age to participate. This class always fills up early. Sign up now.
