If you’re planning on doing some spring cleaning, be sure to save your scrap metal for the Chelsea Athletic Booster’s scrap metal drive on Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
In its second year, the fundraiser in the football stadium parking lot, benefits all 20 of Chelsea High School’s varsity sports as well as athletic programs at Beach Middle School and even helps pay for athletic equipment at the elementary schools says Mark Hergenreder of the Chelsea Athletic boosters.
Jim’s Scrap Iron facilitates the handling of the scrap and takes it directly to Omni Source in Jackson, he says.
“This is our second year,” Hergenreder says via email. “Last year, we collected eight 35-yard containers of scrap and after expenses made about $6,000.”
About 60 volunteers, both athletes and parents, participate.
Hergenreder says, the athletic boosters can arrange for pickup of items via email at [email protected] before the event.
