Sept. 9: Help celebrate SRSLY’s kickoff rally

srslylogo(Chelsea Update would like to thank Laura Blodgett for the information in this story.)

SRSLY Chelsea’s annual Kickoff Rally at Chelsea High School’s home football game against Dexter on Friday, Sept.  9 will begin the annual festivities of SRSLY Week. In addition, SRSLY, a youth substance abuse coalition, will be recruiting new members and celebrating continuing members throughout the week of Sept. 12-16.

SRSLY’s Kickoff Rally is an opportunity for parents and students to learn more about  SRSLY  and how to get involved. The coalition will be adding to the excitement of the football game by handing out free temporary tattoos and rally towels. Those who stop by the SRSLY booth will also be able to win prizes by playing Plinko or purchase a SRSLY shirt for $5.

SRSLY Week

SRSLY Week, developed by community youth, was created as an opportunity for the coalition to celebrate all the work that SRSLY has done in the community and to invite new members to join. The tradition will continue this fall at Chelsea Community Schools.

During SRSLY Week the coalition will be visiting school lunches South Meadows Elementary, Beach Middle School, and Chelsea High School to facilitate fun activities and distribute SRSLY membership cards to volunteers who have donated their time at two or more SRSLY events in the last year. Membership cards will bring certain benefits to members throughout the year to thank them for being involved in SRSLY. The first of those perks will be revealed during SRSLY Week.

“We really appreciate all the hard work SRSLY members put into making Chelsea a better place, so what better way to thank them than surprising them with benefits throughout the year,” said SRSLY Coalition Director Jesse Kauffman.

The coalition consists of representatives from across Chelsea including the schools, hospital, library, law enforcement, churches, businesses, parents, and youth. SRSLY focuses primarily on students aged 10-15, but is open to anyone interested in preventing youth substance use by promoting a more positive and healthy Chelsea community. Those interested in learning more about SRSLY or joining the coalition are welcome to attend SRSLY’s next coalition meeting on Monday, Sept. 12, 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Atrium Conference Room at St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea.
