Serendipity Books receives James Patterson holiday award

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Serendipity Books for the information in this story.)

“Why does this bookseller deserve a holiday bonus?”

That is the question best-selling author James Patterson, a passionate supporter of independent bookstores, poses every year.

Recipients are then chosen from a pool of thousands of nominations from around the country to receive a $500 holiday bonus.

This year, Michelle Tuplin, owner of Serendipity Books in Chelsea, is celebrating her inclusion in the list of winners.

The program is administered by Patterson and the American Booksellers Association, which represents the country’s independent bookstores.

Patterson has donated millions of dollars in recent years to bookstores, school libraries and literacy programs.

“I can´t say it enough: booksellers save lives,” Patterson said in a statement. “I´m happy to be able to acknowledge them and the important work they do in any way that I can this holiday season.”
