If you’re over the limit, you’ll be under arrest, according to a warning from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Thanks to a Federal grant, the Sheriff’s Office, U of M Department of Public Safety and Pittsfield Department of Public Safety will step up enforcement and be on the lookout for impaired drivers throughout the county during a “drunken-driving enforcement” program that runs through April 7.
Law enforcement officers will work more than 200 hours throughout the county during this time period.
Alcohol-involved crashes tend to be more serious than non-drinking crashes and injuries are more serious for drivers and passengers who have been drinking.
In Michigan, a motorist can be arrested for drunk driving with a .08 blood alcohol content or higher. A drunk-driving conviction carries with it an assortment of penalties, including court costs and fines, increased car insurance rates, legal fees and $2,000 in driver responsibilities fees.
Have a plan, designate a sober driver, or simply call a cab to get you home safely.
