Silver Maples of Chelsea Retirement Neighborhood, was among 37 communities recently nationally honored for its excellence in resident engagement.
In addition Silver Maples was the only senior living community in Michigan to receive this award.
The Choice Community Award recognizes organizations that create an exemplary culture that supports residents in their successful aging. To qualify for this award, a community must exceed Holleran’s “Engagement Index” benchmark with a mean score of 85 or higher, on a 100-point scale.
Silver Maples’ was ranked in the 86th percentile for well-Bbing, 90th for voice, 93rd for fullfillment, and the 94th percentile for connection. This honor ranks Silver Maples in the top 5 percent of the more than 700 not-for-profit senior living communities surveyed nationwide.

“It is important to have an industry gold standard such as the Holleran Benchmark, by which to measure and recognize top employee and resident engagement communities. This designation was created because Holleran knows the value of being a Choice Community. These communities boast strong cultures of employee and resident engagement where employees feel their workplaces honor them, and residents feel they are supported in their successful aging,” she said.
Holleran has the largest benchmark of senior living engagement scores by which campuses can compare performance relative to their peers.
“Choice Communities earn this designation—this is the one that really counts and is legitimate. It is not an award that communities apply for; it is more than a marketing technique,” Holleran said.
