Spring clean-up day, which was held at the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) facility on May 17, was a great success.

The final numbers are in from the county, and here are some of them:.

The total number of vehicles that showed up was 1,161, with an average cost per car of $18.94, for a total event cost of $21,994.75.

There were 39,722 pounds of household hazardous materials collected, as well as 33,302 pounds of electronics, and 21,000 pounds of construction and demolition debris, for a total weight of 94,024 pounds of material collected in these three categories.

Also collected were 3,400 pounds of car and truck batteries, 40,000 pounds of scrap steel, 120 cubic yards of rigid plastics, 907 tires, and 87 Freon appliances.

Total sponsorship dollars for the event were as follows: $6,077 from donations at the gate, with Dexter Township providing $500 in sponsorship, and Lyndon Township providing $1,000.

Below is a pie chart breaking down the Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) collected. It is especially important that these materials be disposed of properly, as these are the items that end up polluting the environment, including the water supply, if disposed of improperly.
