St. Vladimir Church Receives Site Plan and Special Use Permit from Lima Planners

Lima Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

The Lima Township Planning Commission unanimously approved (Kenneth Prielipp absent) both a site plan and a special use permit for St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church at the commission’s July 17 meeting.

Certain conditions are part of the approval including that a temporary classroom trailer be there no longer than six years or when a new church is built, which ever happens first.

It was also agreed that the church cemetery must lower the density of planned graves from 433 to 377 to allow for better vehicular access.

Father Gregory Joyce said that the goal is to build a new church at the current 9900 Jackson Road site when enough funds are raised.

The planning commission also discussed the topic of guest houses.

“You can consider a guest house many different ways,” said Paul Montagno, a planner for consultant Carlisle Wortman, who will offer an exact definition of what a guest house is at the commission’s next meeting.

The purpose is to consider amending the ordinance. The discussion included a guest house’s placement on the site, compatibility with the main home, and size limit.

In other action, the commission voted to remove a special land use application for C3 Services LLC for a home office/off premise business at 230 N. Dancer Road. The owner of the property said that the couple applying for the application has not paid their 2016 property taxes.
