State income tax rate drops; personal tax exemption increases

On Oct. 1, a state tax relief plan began, which lowers the income tax rate from 4.35 percent to 4.25 percent, while the personal tax exemption increased from $3,700 per person to $3,950 per person.

In addition, the personal tax exemption will increase to $4,000 on Jan. 1, 2014, according to a press release from State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Twp.
