State Sen. Joe Hune represents the 22nd Senate District of Michigan in the State Legislature, and Western Washtenaw County was added to the District and realigned with Livingston County in 2015.
As part of his responsibilities in the State Senate, he currently serves on the Health Policy and Regulatory Reform Committees, and that made St. Louis Center a perfect place for him to visit on Friday, Nov. 20.
St. Louis Center is a residential care facility for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities located five miles west of Chelsea in Sylvan Townhip, and is planning a number of upgrades to meet the needs of this special population.
During his visit, Hune and Legislative Aide Sam Champagne were welcomed by Administrator Fr. Enzo Addari, and discussed issues with St. Louis Center’s staff concerning fundraising and state grants. These included the proposed St. Louis Guanella Village, regulations concerning Home and Community Based Settings, future impacts to the Human Services Budget, and how families with special needs children cope on a day-to-day basis.
After discussing current issues impacting St. Louis Center, the senator enjoyed a tour of Fr. Guanella Hall to visit the new assisted living facility for older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He then greeted several residents who were present during the tour, and pledged his support in assisting St. Louis Center at the state level to facilitate the St. Louis Guanella Village Project in 2016 and beyond.
