Support Faith in Action by shopping at Meijer

Faith in Action recently announced a partnership with Meijer to provide much-needed hunger relief to local families through the Grand Rapids retailer’s food pantry donation program called, Simply Give (SG).

“We encourage people to help us fulfill our mission of helping feed the hungry in Chelsea and Dexter by purchasing a Meijer Simply Give food donation card during their next shopping trip,” said Nancy Paul, FIA director.

“The SG program has become one of the main ways we fill gaps in the food pantry.”

The FIA office is open at 603 S. Main five days a week for people who need access to emergency food.

In the Meijer Simply Give campaign, customers donate money at the check-out anytime between now and Sept. 15, and the funds are then converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and given to FIA.

The Simply Give program runs three times a year: spring, fall and during the holidays. Since the program began in November 2008, nearly $41 million has been generated for food pantries in the Midwest to distribute to our hungry neighbors.

Last year, $25,000 was given to FIA for stocking the pantry.

“Today’s food pantries continue to struggle with keeping up with the flood of requests they receive daily,” said Meijer spokeswoman Christina Fecher.

“The Simply Give program is a way for Meijer customers to partner with us and support the food pantries that provide food to our hungry neighbors in the communities we serve. We certainly couldn’t do it without the support and commitment of our generous customers and team members, who stand beside us in this effort,” she said.
