Susan Barb, a Chelsea resident with a diverse set of skills and experiences in program management, marketing, and human resources has been hired as the Chelsea Area Senior Center’s new program director.

“Susan will be a terrific asset to our team and organization. Her friendly, outgoing personality will be a great fit to engage with our members,” said Trinh Pifer, executive director of the Chelsea Area Senior Center.

Pifer said Barb was a training coordinator assistant at the Chelsea Community Hospital.

“I’m looking forward to working with a wonderful group of people who bring lots of energy, creativity, and fun to the Chelsea Senior Center,” Barb said in a press release.

As the new program manager, she will help support the many programs and activities that the center offers, and will take the lead in developing new programs and activities that will help attract those in the community who may not be aware of all that the center has to offer.

With almost 700 current members, the senior center provides 30-40 programs every week in addition to a daily senior lunch program, exercise classes, educational and volunteer opportunities.

Anticipating an even greater demand and growth, the center’s Board of Directors committed to hiring a new program manager to support current programs and develop new ones, which will meet the needs of a diverse senior population.
