Susan G. Komen Ride for the Cure biking through Chelsea Saturday

Have you seen these pink signs for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity bike event?

Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth asks that motorists to slow down and keep a careful eye out for about 200 bicyclists who will be riding through town and the surrounding townships, on Saturday, Aug. 4.

They are riding for the Mid-Michigan Susan G. Komen Ride for the Cure and will be out from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. riding 30, 60, or 100 miles during the breast cancer fundraiser.

The charity bike ride will use the Veterans Park parking lot as a resting spot and will have a tent set up there.

“They have used it (the Vet’s Park area) previously,” said City Manager John Hanifan.

But with the passage of the city’s new “Use of Public Property for Special Events” ordinance, the request needed City Council approval, which was unanimously granted on Tuesday, July 10.
