Sewer rates are increasing in 2017 for Sylvan Township residents.
Mike Jurosek, treasurer of the Sylvan Township Water and Sewer Authority, shared that news at the Jan. 3 Sylvan Township Board meeting.
The increase will be reflected in the March 31, 2017 sewer bills and the reason was explained as “system maintenance costs”. It is the first rate adjustment since 2013.
A new year with a new supervisor could mean some changes for Sylvan Township. Supervisor Tom McKernan said one of the things he’d like the board to consider is letting residents use the board room for non-township activities.
McKernan said that the board selected the Citizen of the Year in December but is postponing that announcement until the February board meeting because the engraving is not yet ready for presentation.
In other action, the board unanimously approved a request from Mark and Amy Campbell for a temporary dwelling at 2859 Hayes Road. Zoning Administrator Carol Konieczki explained that the dwelling is too small to meet the definition of a dwelling but that they would like to use it while they build a house. The couple has one year that they can use the temporary dwelling starting June 1, 2017.
