The Lyndon Township Planning Commission met in front of another packed house at the Washington Street Education Center auditorium on Monday night.

The meeting opened with township planner John Enos recommending to the planning commission that the McCoig Materials, Inc. special land use application be tabled for six months, and this recommendation was reiterated by township attorney Ron Richardson.

So, the application was unanimously tabled until November, leaving the audience disappointed as they had hoped to hear McCoig’s response to over 50 questions posed to them by the planning commission.

A paper report containing McCoig’s responses will, however, be available beginning on Tuesday, May 27 at both the Lyndon Township Hall and the Chelsea District Library.

The deadline for the public to file written comments to the planning commission concerning the proposed McCoig application has been extended to Monday, July 28.

State Senator Joe Hune (R-22nd District) addressed the planning commission, stating that he and State Senator Rebekah Warren (D-18th District) have been discussing the issue.

“We’re here for you – whatever this community needs, behind the scenes, or in front of the scenes, certainly please let us know,” he said.

Planning Commission Member Bob Mester said that the 6-month tabling is necessary.

“I would love to ask questions (of McCoig) the trouble is the bulk of the information that I would need, and need to understand …  still relies on information not received yet.”

Mester was referring to the ecological, hydrological, and traffic studies which have not yet been completed for the township.
