Thermometers up, $100,000 goal for Chelsea United Way

The Chelsea United Way thermometer goes up with the help of President-elect Eric Keaton, Jacob McCulloch, Mark McCulloch, Steve Saules and Teresa Zigman.

The Chelsea United Way has collected $70,000 toward its $100,000 goal for 2012 contributions and is looking for your help to reach its fundraising goal.

At the group’s recent board meeting, Chelsea resident Valerie Kennings, the new CFO of Washtenaw United Way, said Washtenaw United Way is experiencing a decrease in contributions as it United Way Worldwide.

A variety of factors are influencing individual contributions, she said, the largest is the anticipated “fiscal cliff” that the US is facing, Kennings told the group.

This was surprising to the CUW board as this year there is no change in the IRS limits for contributions — all CUW contributions are deductible, however the extent of deduction depends on each individual’s tax status, said Teresa Zigman, president of the Chelsea United Way.

Zigman suggests that potential contributors check with their tax adviser for specific details.

The storm Sandy, which hit the East Coast, is also adversely impacting other United Way Annual Giving Campaigns, and CUW is no exception, she said.

The group plans to send follow-up letters to previous contributors this week and a business mailing will go out shortly, so please consider a donation to help this local group meet its goal for the year.

The Chelsea United Way’s goal remains at $100,000 and the board will be working hard in December to do everything possible to meet it, Zigman said.

Contributions to the Chelsea United Way remain in the community, and you can click here to get more information.
