UMRC elects two new board members

United Methodist Retirement Communities (UMRC) recently announced two new board members.

Edward B. Southworth, vice president of long term care and business development for Carelinc and Michael H. Fritz, a retiree who formerly served as consultant to the vice president for research and graduate studies at Michigan State University were elected to the Board of Directors.

The newly appointed board members will serve a 3-year term focusing on the nonprofit’s leadership and governance.

Southworth has more than 30 years of leadership and sales experience in the healthcare industry, and has cultivated successful relationships with more than 150 nursing facility leaders and staff throughout Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

For more than seven years, he provided services and support to UMRC’s assisted living communities.

Southworth earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Hamilton College. He resides in Jackson.

With more than 50 years of professional experience in various industries including research, economic and tourism development and healthcare, Fritz brings extensive development and research-oriented strategy to UMRC’s board.

He earned his master’s degree in hospital administration at the University of Michigan’s Graduate School of Business, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Albion College. Fritz resides in Bloomfield Hills.
