Move-in day can’t be far away based on the response to the grand opening of Prairie Cottages, the newest section of the Chelsea Retirement Community.

The United Methodist Retirement Communities hosted the event, which included tours of three completed cottages. Many cottages are currently under construction with a total of 41 to be built.

“The first residents will arrive in February,” said Stacey Olson, director of public relations for UMRC. “We have 24 reservations. The cottages should be completed by the middle of 2018.”

All the cottages are barrier-free with every doorway accommodating mobility devices. The cottages are in the 1,400-1,700 square foot range and include both one bedroom with dens and two bedrooms with dens.

“Residents at Prairie Cottages will have the same options as residents in independent living,” said Olson, listing dining options, the soon-to-be built Wellness Center and Pool, and shuttle transportation as examples. “The interest has proved to be more than we ever expected.”

Olson describes Prairie Cottages as “taking baby steps into the world of retirement living.”
