Undefeated Chelsea ice hockey downs Dexter, 8-0

When it comes to the Chelsea-Dexter rivalry, you always get an exciting game. And Saturday’s game was an exciting one for Bulldog fans as the team remains undefeated and won 8-0.

Under MHSAA rules the game is over when a team is up by 8 goals in the third period. Chelsea Bulldog goaltender Derek Schaedig earned his second shutout of the season. He faced 12 shots in just under 40 minutes of play.

Chelsea’s first goal was a short-handed one by Jacob Mcintyre, assisted by Brennen Wright at the 5:59 mark of the first period. At the 8:39 mark, defenseman Kyle Doyle scored from the point, assisted by Jack Miller and Sean Cox. Just 34 seconds later, defenseman Thomas Steele scored with an assist by Wright. The first period ended with Chelsea up 3-0.

In the second, Alec Daman scored at the 7:04 mark, assisted by Cox and Braden Steele. Daman scored again at the 13:23 mark assisted by Doyle. Ben Otto finished the second period scoring with an assist by Nathaniel Bero and Brendon Thibodeau putting the Bulldogs up 6-0 after two periods of play.

In the third, Cox scored shorthanded 3:13 into the period unassisted. Mcintyre finished the scoring and the game with a power play goal at the 5:33 mark of the third, assisted by Steele and Harrison Green.

Chelsea’s record is now 5-0 on the season (1-0 SEC) Dexter’s is 2-2 (1-1 SEC).

The Bulldogs play Ann Arbor Skyline Wednesday at Yost Ice Arena at 5:45 p.m. Then the Bulldogs travel up north to the 12th annual D-3 showcase in Gaylord for games Friday and Saturday vs. Grand Rapids Christian and Jeffers High School from the UP.

Chelsea’s next home game is the Military Classic on Saturday Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m. vs New Boston Huron at the Arctic Coliseum.
