Welcome Back the Chelsea Community Fair Aug. 24-28

Get ready for the sweet sounds of farm animals emulating from the livestock barns and the revving engines and crunching metal from the Main Arena.

Are you ready for that unmistakable taste of cotton candy, an elephant ear or hand dipped ice cream?

The 83rd Chelsea Community Fair is slated to return this summer from Aug. 24-28.

“The Fair Board is excited to bring the fair back this year and a little bit of normalcy,” said Fair Board President Eric McCalla.

He said that all the events fairgoers enjoy – the tractor pulls, the demolition derby, the livestock shows and auction, Ladies Day, the Fair Queen program, rides and games and all the different kinds of fair food will all be back.

Along with all of that, there will be vendors and non-profits in the Merchant Barn, Bingo from the Knights of Columbus, the Creation of Life barn, and the rodeo.

And did I mention the many food choices? Think knackwurst and hot dogs – from the Kiwanis trailer, breakfast, lunch and dinner inside the air-conditioned Service Center Building.

“With the governor opening things up on July 1, we are good to go,” said Fair Manager Jeff Layher.

So get working on those derby cars, get planting those flowers and vegetables.

As always, the Green Barn will be filled with community projects. So what will you  grow? Or bake? Or sew? Or can? Or photograph? Or craft?

It’s still May so there’s plenty of time to plan, create and gather together plenty of entries to compete for Homemaker of the Year or Jr. Homemaker of the Year.

And remember, there’s something at fair for the whole family.

“We are counting down the days until Youth Day returns at the Chelsea Community Fair,” said Kimberly Gillow, youth day activities superintendent.”

Children attending the fair on opening day are invited to stop by for the traditional Coin Hunt, Three-Legged Race and Sack Races.

“There will be prizes and Chelsea School District administrators will be there to cheer for children as they enjoy these friendly competitions,” she said.

So mark your calendars, tell your friends and family members, fair is back and you can find more information at www.chelseafair.org. And many more stories with details as fair draws closer on Chelsea Update.
