The Chelsea House Orchestra (CHO) will perform its annual Hometown Show on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Chelsea High School auditorium.

CHO, known for performing “Celtic with a Kick,” delivers high-energy entertainment in the Scottish and Irish traditions, Celtic renditions of American folk music, with a little Hungarian-inspired music and rock and roll thrown in just for fun, according to information about the event.

The Hometown show will also feature the Beach Middle School Fiddle Club.

The house orchestra consists of 30 Chelsea High School students  who are enrolled in the school’s music programs.

Director Jed Fritzemeier started the group in 1996 with just 10 students. Since then, the group has grown and become immensely popular throughout the region and is a sought-after entertainment for major highland festivals, as well as for private functions.

You will find these young performers playing traditional stringed instruments, such as violins, violas, cellos, basses, and guitars, along with less traditional instruments like the djembe and the cajon. To kick things up a notch, they also include flutes, oboes, clarinets, and electric guitars and basses.

Over the last several months, CHO has performed on stages in Detroit, Chicago, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. In early March, they will play in Louisville, KY at the national conference of the American String Teachers Association.

Now is your chance to see them on their home stage. Tickets for the Feb. 1 performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. They are available at Chelsea Pharmacy, at the door, or via email at [email protected].
