What makes Chelsea special for you?

I love the livestock and kids who show them at the Chelsea Community Fair.

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Julie Doman for this idea.)

Facebook posts can lead to interesting story ideas. Just ask resident Julie Doman.

She contacted me earlier in the week and asked if I’d consider allowing people to comment on why they love Chelsea.

Here’s what she said: “In the last few weeks, I have had friends on my Facebook (page) comment on how they love this small town. From little things like Phil’s cap being blown off by a semi, to the Cookie Man (who delivers fresh baked cookies to folks).”

“So I was thinking, how about having a Blog about “How I love this small town,” she asked, “So people can post the super duper cool things that go on in Chelsea?”

I thought this was a grand idea, so I’m asking you to think about the things you adore about Chelsea and send me an email at [email protected] or simply comment on this story.

I’ll compile them and put together a story. Or, hopefully more than one story … and put them out on Chelsea Update’ Facebook page and see what else people have to say.

To get the ball rolling, I’ll give you two of my favorite things.

The Chelsea Community Fair tops my list – because it’s one of the few remaining truly community events that brings together local kids, animals, and adults. It’s fun to watch these kids grow up and to chat with people I sometimes only see once a year. It’s a special time each summer that creates memories that last a lifetime.

Second on my list would be the two Chelsea farmers’ markets. I love the Wednesday Bushel Basket Market because you won’t find a friendlier group of vendors anywhere, and the Saturday Downtown Market because it serves as not only a great place to buy locally, but also as a great gathering place for people to reconnect and catch-up after a busy week.

Hmm, there seems to be a farm theme going on here.

  1. I love Chelsea because after only a year after moving here, we feel right at home. Sights and Sounds, candidate meets, our wonderful library and a close knitt condo association have really helped. Thank you for your wonderful web site for keeping us up to date,
