Participants in the 2015 Chelsea Community Fair‘s Horse Show on Tuesday afternoon spent the morning prepping their horses.
Some, like Ruby Johnson, age 11, with the help of her grandmother, bathed her horse Chaps.
“I got Chaps when I was 4,” said Ruby. “He’s really calm and sweet.”
Jordan Hirst was getting ready to show Mokie.
“I’ve been riding horses for 10 years,” said Hirst. “The Chelsea Fair is a lot of fun, and I like hanging out with my friends from 4-H.”
Emily Weaver was walking her horse Mojo around the gated ring, preparing him for his first show, while her mom, Lori Weaver advised, “Keep his mind on you.”
Lori Weaver says she’s had horses most of her life and that she was told she neighed before she talked. She and her daughter enjoy coming to the fair.
“Everybody is so friendly at the Chelsea Fair,” said Lori Weaver. “There is camaraderie and good clean fun. We love the good leadership from the superintendent Lucy Heimerdinger.”
Tuesday’s Horse Show includes Halter, Showmanship and Championship classes.
