On Thursday, Oct. 22, two modest heroes of the Chelsea Community were recognized as the 2015 Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement winners.

Longtime volunteers in the community, Ed Vlcek and Lynda Collins were honored at a banquet presented by the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce at the Chelsea Comfort Inn and Village Conference Center by more than 100 attendees who gave them both standing ovations for their efforts.

Veretta Whitaker introduced Collins, owner of Thompson’s Pizzeria, telling the crowd about her thousands of fundraising spaghetti dinners for folks in need and causes, her efforts on behalf of Chelsea softball and the Chelsea Area Historical Society. Collins was chosen as the Lifetime Achievement winner.

Gloria Mitchell introduced Vlcek and expounded on his volunteer efforts and fundraising activities for Timbertown, the boy scouts and the Chelsea Athletic Boosters both at the Chelsea Community Fair and in the school concession stands. Vlcek was chosen as the Citizen of the Year.

The evening was sponsored by Rick Taylor Real Estate and flowers were from Gigi’s Flowers.
