Master’s Degree student Bryan Allen has a definite goal for his career. The 2017 Chelsea High School graduate wants to work in the luxury fashion and cosmetics industries.

He is pursuing his degree at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and has just enrolled in a course on the History, Culture and Management of Luxury Brands that includes an eight-day intensive study abroad in Milan, Italy, known as the fashion capital of the world.

“Milan is home to so many major players in the game of luxury, and I couldn’t envision a better place to learn before I walk the stage (to graduate) this spring,” he said, adding, “I find myself getting an adrenaline rush from the idea of having a part in the work that they’re doing at these major powerhouses of the luxury industry.”

After earning an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance at Michigan State University, Allen realized it wasn’t the right career for him. He is now in the last semester of his master’s degree program at the University of Michigan.

“My master’s has given me so many tools to become relentless in my pursuit of this new industry,” said Allen. “There’s such a difference within each industry in how teams go about their work, from tech to finance to fashion and cosmetic brands.”

He’s begun the course on the History, Culture and Management of Luxury Brands, which he says is vital to better understanding the industry.

Allen is fundraising to make the trip to Milan possible. As a full-time graduate student, he needs help to cover travel costs and has set up a GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/96839ef3

“We get dressed every day, we wash our face every night, and these products sit in our homes year-round,” said Allen. “This course is designed to familiarize students with the nuances of such a unique playing field, and by doing so, enable them to go out into the field and become prominent leaders and manage the future success of these longstanding brands.”

“The trip to Milan plays such an integral role in the culture aspect, as numerous brands originated in, and still reside in Milan, Italy,” he said.
