7 runners in the top 25 at recent X-C meet

ChelseaBulldogsLogoGoldTrimChelsea High School cross-country runners competed in the End of Summer Classic at Huron Meadows Metro Park on Aug. 29 in hot, sunny, 88 degree and humid weather.

Head Cross-Country Coach Eric Swager said via email that ten teams competed and no team score was kept, but Chelsea’s Jacob Stubbs finished first in a time of 16:38 and David Trimas was third in a time of 16:47.

Other finishers in the top 25 were:  12. Jack Abernethy  in 18:15, 15. Joe Vermilye in 18:35, 17.  Ben Koch in 18:40, 19.  Bram Parkinson in 18:47, 23. and Adam Bowersox in 18:59.

In addition: 27. Matt Proegler in 19:15, 41. Kyle Mcgregor in 19:55, 51. Mitchell Henschel in 20:23, 59.  Liam Heaney in 20:32, 82.  James Straub in 21:27, 88. Miles Fischer in 21:37, 103.  Nich Hoffman in 21:52, 114. Jack Bolt in 22:25, 121. Reed Aldrich in 22:39, 123.  Jack Baylis in 22:42, 125.  Josh Cole in 22:45, 131. Cole Phillips in 22:57 and 154.  Austin Reardon in 28:06

In the 2-mile run: 47. Abe Cone in 14:22, 50. Ben Brannon in 14:45, 58. Dominic Gasbarre in 15:52, 59. Zach Hinderer in 15:54 and 66. Drew Sujek in 16:45.

“This was a fine meet with a large field and decent competition,” Swager said. “The day was substantially hot, which impeded fast times.  Still, we had some very good efforts, which was my focus today.”

Swager said, “Jacob Stubbs and David Trimas were again outstanding,” adding, “To run that fast and place that well this early in the year bodes well for their success later on.”

Swager also noted that having 7 guys place in the top 25 was also encouraging.

“We still have some big improvement working on the last half of our race, but with continued hard work and quality mileage, I am confident that many times will come down drastically,” he said.
