Have you always wanted to learn how to do stained glass or make a quilt?
There are great opportunities this summer to try out these new hobbies and learn some new skills.
The Community Center Summer Days are offering these programs as part of a summer-long effort to keep families and kids active and engaged.
The C.A.D.D.Y. Corner Quilters will be offering families an opportunity to help create “disappearing nine patch” quilts that will be donated to the University of Michigan Hospital Transplant Program.
Twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m. starting July 16 through Aug. 8, you can come contribute to this project.
All materials and instruction will be provided.
The C.A.D.D.Y. Corner Quilters meet weekly at the senior center to make quilts for charity and last year donated 57 quilts to local non-profits and the University of Michigan Hospital. It’s a great opportunity to learn about this art form and support a good cause.
Other creative opportunities are available during Community Center Summer Days including a make and take stained glass project on Aug. 8 from 2-4 p.m.
Participants will make a stained glass butterfly or angel for this special project. Class size is limited to the first 10 participants.
On July 19, the Chelsea District Library will offer a miniature rock painting project from 2-4 p.m. for people of all ages. Materials and instruction will be provided for all of these classes.
These special projects are part of the Community Center Summer Days at the Washington Street Education Center.
Passes for the whole summer are still available and can be purchased online at the Community Education website.
For only $50 per person or $100 per household, you can enjoy access to all these creative programs along with open gym, teen tech café, and Friday evening open swim at Beach Middle School through Aug. 17.
A daily-drop-in pass for $5 per person is also available at the door. Parents or guardians must be available to sign liability release forms for all daily drop-in passes.
