Summer may offer an ever-changing schedule for many families, but for the clients at Faith in Action, the need for food remains consistent year-round.

Unfortunately, with school out and people on vacation, Faith in Action receives fewer food donations in the summer.

According to FIA Associate Director Sarah Shugart, these are the grocery items that FIA can use now:

  • Chef Boyardee or other canned pasta
  • cereal (but not Cheerios)
  • jelly
  • snacks such as crackers, chips, granola bars and nuts
  • canned tomato products
  • shampoo and conditioner.

These are the grocery items FIA can always use:

  • Coffee
  • Tissues
  • Cereal
  • snack items.

“Children are home for the summer, so snacks and items that are kid friendly are appreciated,” said Shugart, who reminds people to please donate unopened, unexpired food.

FIA’s Chelsea location is at 603 S. Main St. and accepts donations from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday with additional hours on Wednesdays until 7 p.m.

FIA’s Dexter location is at 7275 Joy Road and is open 12-7 p.m. Wednesdays only.

You can reach FIA at 734-475-3305.
