Cap off the Independence holiday week with a visit to the Saturday Chelsea Farmers Market at Palmer Commons. The market runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Michigan cherries, both sweet and sour, have arrived, along with raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, zucchini, beets, mushrooms, and a variety of greens. The Chelsea market also has vendors selling baked goods, honey, eggs, cheeses, meats, pottery, jewelry, and soy candles.
Among the bakers is Nick Raterman, a Chelsea resident who bakes a variety of sourdough breads, which are naturally fermented. Raterman’s breads start with three ingredients: flour, water, and salt. The choice of Raterman sourdough breads keeps on growing and include original, asiago rosemary, multigrain, kalamata olive, sesame, and rye wheat.
