More Details Available for MLK Day Activities

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joanne Ladio for the information in this story.)

One World One Family is sorry to announce that we will be cancelling the in-person family activities at the Chelsea Depot on Jan. 17.

We are using an abundance of caution given the rising Covid cases in our area. Please continue to donate art and school supplies and/or cash donations for refugee families. We want to be able to give a warm welcome to those families new to our area.  We are so grateful for those received to date.

Details for the collection is here.  The bins will be in place through Monday, Jan. 17 at Chelsea District Library, First United Methodist Church lobby, the Chelsea Senior Center, the Chamber of Commerce and Chelsea State Bank.  Details are at www.owofchelsea.org.

The Chelsea First United Methodist Church has announced that the Multi-Cultural Concert on Jan. 16 will also be live-streamed.  This concert is entitled:  How Music Impacts Our Culture and will feature commentary by Rev. Darryl Toddy from Detroit.  A spokesman said: In this concert we concentrate on how music, race, and the arts have helped shape the culture of our country over the last 100 years. We have multiple musical groups representing Big Band, Jazz, Blue-grass, Soul, Musical Theater, and the British Invasion.  It begins at 4:30 p.m. at the church.  Masks required for in-person attendance and distancing will be in place.

Live stream available on the church YouTube channel.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-oDHg9zaImC42npYW0EvTA

On Jan. 20, the Human Rights Commission’s presentation will be held online at 3:30 p.m. The topic is:  Health Equity: How Far Have We Come? Guest speakers will be: Jeremy Lapedis, executive director of the Washtenaw Health Plan; Maria Militzer, researcher and community organizer with Mexiquenses;  Spring Quinones, community impact director with the American Heart Association.  Zoom link is available at www.city-chelsea.org.

Don’t forget to register for the showing of the film The Butler on Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. with a discussion afterward. This is hosted by the Chelsea District Library and registration is necessary. Register here.
