In addition to the first Bulldog football practice of the season on Monday, Aug. 11 at noon, the Chelsea Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. for the first of two regular meetings this month.

There are lots of items on the Chelsea Board of Education’s agenda including recommendations from Superintendent of Schools Andy Ingall to designate Chelsea State Bank as the district’s bank for a number of its accounts as well as retaining the legal firms of Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett, LLP and Thrun Law Firm to represent the district for the upcoming school year.

The board will also vote on the appointment of the Executive Director of Business and Operations  as the election administrator and the deputy to the board secretary “for election-related matters,” as well as deputy to the board treasurer “to perform the duties required of the board treasurer.”

In addition, the Board of Education will consider a fee of $50 per year for hard copies of board packets for “individuals, organizations, firms or corporations,” retroactively to July 1 and through June 30, 2014.

Also up for consideration is:

The district joining both the Michigan Association of School Boards and the Michigan High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) for the 2013-2014 school year.

Plus, it looks as though the Chelsea House Orchestra is going to have a very busy year. The board will consider the orchestra’s trip to Edinboro, PA for the Highland Games from Sept. 6-8 and discuss another request for a field trip to the Chicago Scots’ Feast for the Haggis in Chicago, Ill. on Nov. 22.

Also up for discussion is the field trip for both the men’s and women’s chorus field trip to the Chelsea United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 8, opting out of the International Baccalaureate program, while supporting via resolution the county-wide shooter assault policy and A.L.I.C.E training.
