The Purple Rose Theatre Company announces its 2014/2015 season

Purple Rose Theatre Company’s 24th professional season will include: Annapurna by Sharr White, Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, Talley’s Folly by Lanford Wilson, and 2AZ by Michael Brian Ogden.

Eight low-priced previews will begin each run, followed by press opening  night during the second week of each engagement.

Regular performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. with Wednesday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. and Saturday matinees at 3 p.m.

All performances will be held at The Purple Rose Theatre Company, 137 Park St.

Annapurna
What if you had experienced the defining moment of your life – but couldn’t remember it?

Sharr White’s heartfelt and remarkable play, Annapurna, deals with that dilemma and the unpredictable eccentricities of love.

Experience the Midwest premiere of this bittersweet comedy by one of America’s most vibrant and lyrical new playwrights.

Annapurna will have a 14-week engagement from Thursday, Sept. 18 to Saturday, Dec. 20. Directed by PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville, the cast includes Richard McWilliams (Dayton, Ohio) and Michelle Mountain (Grass Lake).

Steel Magnolias
You may think you know Steel Magnolias, but you have never experienced the story quite like this – a Purple Rose take on this classic comedy celebrating the unfathomable bond shared by six small-town women who possess a strength that beckons joy and laughter no matter what life throws at them.

Steel Magnolias will run for 9 weeks from Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 through Saturday, March 14, 2015. Directed by PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville, the cast will feature Susan Craves (Clarkston, MI), Rachel Hull (Goodrich, MI), Lauren Knox (Macomb), Laurel Merlington (Grand Rapids), Michelle Mountain (Grass Lake) and Rhiannon Ragland (Gregory).

Talley’s Folly
Do you believe that one mesmerizing evening can change the course of two lives forever?

PRTC benefactor Lanford Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy features a pair of mismatched souls longing to find love after nearly giving up on the dream.

Talley’s Folly will have an 8-week engagement from Thursday, April 2 through Saturday, May 23, 2015. Directed by PRTC Resident Artist Angie Kane Ferrante, the cast will feature Aphrodite Nikolovski (Birmingham) and Rob Najarian (Ann Arbor).

2AZ
You’ve seen them in the movies and on your TV. Now the experience is up close and personal. Michael Brian Ogden’s (Corktown, Bleeding Red) world premiere thriller about the Zombie Apocalypse digs deep into the recesses of our souls to face the monster that may be lurking in all of us.

2AZ will run for 12 weeks from Thursday, June 11 through Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. Directed by PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville, the cast will feature David Bendena (Chelsea), Will Bryson (Harper Woods, MI), Stephanie Buck (Chelsea), Rainbow Dickerson (Los Angeles), David Daoust (Lansing), Deb Keller (Brighton), Lauren Knox (Macomb, MI), Owen Likely (Belle Mead, NJ), Michelle Mountain (Grass Lake), Rob Najarian (Ann Arbor), Michael Brian Ogden (Chelsea), Drew Parker (Ferndale, MI), Rhiannon Ragland (Gregory), April Warner (Dublin, Ohio), Tom Whalen (Royal Oak, MI) and Nina White (Grosse Pointe Park, MI).

2AZ contains violence and adult language.

Founded in 1991 by actor and Chelsea native, Jeff Daniels, The Purple Rose Theatre Company (PRTC) is the home of world-class, original American theatre. The PRTC is a professional theatre company with roots in the Midwest that takes a handcrafted, artisanal approach to producing new and classic American plays that are nothing less than one-of-a-kind experiences.  The PRTC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit professional theatre operating under a Small Professional Theatre agreement with the Actors’ Equity Association.

Tickets for groups of 12 or more are available for purchase starting July 7. PRTC donors can purchase tickets approximately two months before each show opens with tickets going on sale to the public two weeks later.
