Chelsea’s exchange students – Bruno Custodio , Benjamin Seeck, Kai Mielke, Anni-Liis Lohmus, and Emi Asada – sent this Facebook post thanking the community before they left the city earlier this month.

“Our exchange year is almost over.  We’re about to start heading back to our home countries.”

The post continued, “As a tradition in Chelsea, we decided to paint the rock to show our appreciation for being hosted by this amazing city (even though it’s really small one – lol) (that) we’ll never forget. We made a life in one year: we were born, we grew, and now we’re about to die (in the figurative sense) peacefully.

Remaining (are) only good memories and the hope that someday we’ll come back and visit the ones who made this year special for us.

Thank you host families,
Thank you, friends,
Thank you, Chelsea High School,
Thank you, Chelsea, Michigan for this amazing year you’ve offered us.”

According to Joni Benson, in the past, Chelsea High School has only accepted 5 exchange students each year. However, the School Board recently approved a measure that would allow up to 10 Exchange Students each year.

In the fall, four Youth For Understanding (YFU) students were approved to attend Chelsea High School – two from Germany, one from France and one from Italy.

Youth for Understanding has many exchange students looking for host families for the coming school year.  Click here for more information about becoming a host family, yfuusa.org.

Or contact the local YFU Volunteer Joni Benson at 248-939-3120.
