Concerned neighbors again attended the Lima Township Planning Commission meeting on Monday, June 22 to discuss the ongoing issue of the Camp Woodbury event site.
There have been two more weddings held at the camp since the Planning Commission last met, and neighbors of the camp reported disrupting amplified noise coming from the camp after 10 p.m. during a June 20 wedding.
According to Susan Filipiak, a neighbor of the camp, “Neighbors continue to be disturbed by noise and traffic brought by these weekend events.”
Planning Commission Chairperson Marlene Consiglio expressed her disappointment over the June 20 disturbance. Consiglio reported that she visited the Camp Woodbury property during the wedding held there on June 13, and heard no noise while circling the perimeter of the camp property.
The difference between the June 13 and June 20 weddings was that the amplified music was outside for the latter wedding. The music for the June 13 wedding was contained in the lodge, and neighbors reported hearing nothing during this event.
Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier stated that a subcommittee tasked with examining the Special Land Use application should be meeting this week to further explore the issue.
Among suggestions which have been discussed to help insure special use requirements are met if the application is granted, is that there be an manager present on-site at the Camp Woodbury on Nordman Lake site during events.
Other suggestions include limiting the number of guests, setting a shut-down time for events, as well as attempting to control event exit traffic congestion by making sure guests don’t all exit at once when leaving an event.
Camp Woodbury owner Jan Muhleman agreed that an on-site manager in necessary, and continued to express her intent to abide by the township noise ordinances.
Due to the ongoing discussion, the Special Land Use application was again tabled, and will be taken up again at the next Planning Commission meeting, which will be held on July 27.
According to Consiglio, “The subcommittee will get together again this week, and come up with additional measures to protect residents.”
In other news, Maier thanked Paul Frisinger for filling in as Zoning Administrator while Tom Caplis in on medical leave.
