Aug. 17: Silver Maples of Chelsea to host first American Red Cross blood drive

Red Cross blood drive logo(Chelsea Update would like to thank Natalie McKenney for the information in this story.)

Silver Maples of Chelsea will host its first American Red Cross blood drive on Monday, Aug. 17.

The hours are from noon to 5:45 p.m. in the Maples Room.

Attendees can expect friendly company, music and giveaways.

It takes about an hour per person, and includes a health assessment to ensure you’re okay to give blood. Plus, you get free snacks and juice afterward.

Donors give about a pint, which can save three lives. Only about 3 percent of people give blood, but 87 percent eventually need blood.

Even if you aren’t sure you can donate, we still encourage folks to try.

People can sign up at www.redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor Code SilverMaplesChelsea to make an appointment. They are not necessary, but recommended, and will save some time when you come in the day of the drive.
