Beach Middle School will be adding an assistant principal to its staff in the fall. His name is Matt Ceo, and he has been working as an English teacher at Saline Middle School.

“This is an added position at Beach Middle School to best support the needs of our students, staff and families,” said Beach Principal Nick Angel. “It is rare that a school our size wouldn’t have an assistant principal so with the passing of the educational millage, we were able to add some much needed supports to our district.”

In his role as Beach Assistant Principal, Ceo will perform evaluations, co-lead professional development, and oversee and support after school functions along with Angel, Jason Morris and Brad Bush. Ceo visited Beach on June 15.

“I look forward to meeting the students and getting to know what interests them and how I can make them tick,” said Ceo, who has family from Chelsea. “This is a wonderful community where people are concerned about education, and that appeals to me.”

“We had over 200 applicants for this position with a wide array of backgrounds and experiences,” said Angel. “Our various hiring committees and interview rounds all had him rated at the top throughout the process.”

Ceo is a Saline High School graduate, who graduated from the University of Michigan in 2008 with a degree in elementary education. He has served as both a teacher leader and a Dean of Students at Saline Middle School as well as a club adviser, web advisor and technology leader. In addition, Ceo, who is an experienced lacrosse player, was head coach of the Saline varsity lacrosse team for five years.

“We wear many hats at Beach and with the addition of Matt to our team, it will allow our staff to focus on their specialty areas instead of being a jack of all trades,” said Angel. “I am very excited to be bringing Matt’s energy and enthusiasm to our support team.”

Ceo’s official start date in Chelsea is July 1.
