Chelsea has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the demolition and environmental abatement of the Daniels Showroom and bidders have until 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 to submit their proposals.

At that time, the bids will be publicly opened and read.

The DDA previously approved a resolution that states, “That the auto dealership addition to the Mack Building be removed, the western wall windows and entry of the Mack Building be restored to its historic character as nearly as possible, and the open space be redeveloped as landscaped public space in accordance with the DDA’s previously approved concept drawings.”

In addition, at its last meeting, the DDA approved the following resolution: “To proceed with solicitation of demolition bids for the removal of the Daniels showroom addition of the Longworth buildings including the construction to close and secure all openings of the remaining front facade.  Bids should include cement sidewalk cap of area pending future design of new historic front and streetscape.”

The project scope includes the removal of suspected asbestos containing materials from the showroom and building demolition “including precise removal of brick exterior on a portion of the adjacent building.”

Also included in the project is site stabilization and secure openings, site leveling, use of the existing floor slab, if possible, slab on-grade concrete and potential salvage of architectural elements, according to the RFP.

The plans and specs are on file at the City Offices.

Bidders must provide a certified check or bank draft payable without conditions to the City of Chelsea or a satisfactory bid bond executed by the bidder and a surety company in an amount that’s 5 percent of the proposal amount, according to the proposal.

A pre-bid conference is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Chelsea City offices, and it’s expected that the work will be completed by the end of October.
