Volunteers needed for Sylvan Township water debt advisory committee

Sylvan Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

Volunteers interested in being part of Sylvan Township’s Advisory Committee on Water Debt are invited to step up as a new committee is forming.

Chair Kurt Koseck reported at the Nov. 14 Sylvan Township Board meeting that the current committee did not come up with a recommendation but instead developed three options: 1.) Maintaining maximum reserves; 2.) Using settlement funds to pay down county debt; 3.) Using settlement funds to reduce the millage rate.

The new committee’s goal will be to quantify the projected costs and revenues of the water system.

The board voted unanimously to close Sylvan Township Hall between Christmas and New Year’s Day. That’s an addition of three days – Dec. 26, 27, and 28 – that the hall will be closed. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The board approved its meeting calendar for 2018, continuing to meet on the first Tuesday of every month except for January when it will meet on the second Tuesday, as well as in the months of July, August and November.

Bollinger Sanitation and Excavation, Inc. was unanimously chosen by the board to handle snow removal for the season.

Anyone who wants to nominate a Sylvan Township resident for 2017 Citizen of the Year is encouraged to do so as soon as possible. There is a form to fill out on the township website, and the deadline is next Monday, Nov. 20.
