A Matter of Balance In-Person Workshop at Chelsea Wellness Center

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joyce Williams for the information in this story.)

Concerned about falls? Need a way to strengthen your balance?

As we get older, we can improve our health with simple movements. One easy way is by joining the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan’s A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls.

This in-person workshop in Chelsea helps older adults prevent falls and lessen the fear of falling. The workshop also helps participants safely increase their physical activity, learn strategies to prevent falls, and improve balance and flexibility.

The workshop includes step-by-step instruction, helpful for those who have not exercised before or in a long time. Extras include a workbook, snacks and water. The eight-week workshop is open to any adult 65 and older. There is no cost to participate but donations are always welcome.

A Matter of Balance in-person workshop, sessions 1-8: Wednesdays, March 13 to May 1, 1-3 pm., Chelsea Wellness Center, 14800 E Old US Hwy 12.

Pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call Chelsea Wellness Center at 734-214-0220. If you need special help to participate, please let the NKFM know at least 10 days in advance of the first class at [email protected] or by calling 800-482-1455, Ext. 2140.

If you have not exercised in a while, talk to your doctor first about increasing your physical activity. If you have Medicaid, you must renew yearly. Be sure your address, phone number, and email address are up to date with MDHHS. Report any changes in your household or income. The best way to update your information is to go online to Michigan.gov/MIBridges, call your local MDHHS office, or call 800-642-3195 (TTY: 866-501-5656). Do not wait until you need health care to renew.
