The Chelsea District Library is hosting an Introduction to the Leveled Reader Collection on Thursday, April 23 from 7-8 p.m.

This program is geared toward parents of young students who are learning to read and Lisa Kaemming, the reading specialist at North Creek Elementary School, will be leading the session. She will focus on using the Leveled Reader kits at home to support the skills that new readers are learning in school.

Tutors, grandparents, and homeschool parents are also welcome to sign up for the program.

Leveled-Reader-CollectionThe Leveled Reader Collection contains more than 100 packs of books that become more complex with each level. The lowest levels include books with one short sentence per page, and the levels gradually advance in difficulty to early chapter books. This gradual increase allows students to not only improve their reading skills, but also increase their confidence as readers.

“Spring is the perfect time to get familiar with the Leveled Readers, as we head into the end of the school year with summer break coming up,” said librarian Jessica Schmidt.

She said, “Last year, we could barely keep these kits on the shelves. Parents reported that the kits made it really easy to find ‘just-right’ books for their children to practice reading all summer long.”
